For the developers this version of Ethereum 2.0, this is phase 0 of version 0.1, was also released the test network code for Ethereum customers, called Gorli, which aims to update to improve security and the scalability of Ethereum. The details of this version highlight that, in this new code, the developers made new adjustments in what corresponds to the hash function of the network, old errors are corrected and the order is issued to reinforce all deposits of the previous version of Ethereum , ETH1.

The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin said that this version is almost complete to integrate Casper into its code. Casper is an approval algorithm that was developed to carry out the Ethereum mining change, carrying out a migration from the current Work Test (PoW) to the Consensus Test (PoS), this being one of the proposals of the route to update the evolution of Ethereum.

What is Ethereum 2.0?

Ethereum 2.0 is a term that is used to designate a series of updates that have been proposed by the developers of this network in order to improve the scalability, mining and security of the Blockchain. The purpose of this proposal is to integrate a group of side chains, including Plasma, Raiden and eWasm, to improve the performance of the Ethereum Blockchain, examining the integration of Casper to migrate the consensus algorithm of Work Test (PoW). Proof of Participation and implement in this way the sharding process to increase scalability.

The version of Ethereum 2.0

This version will allow evaluation in a separate test network, the Participation Test consensus algorithm that would replace the current Work Test algorithm and that would lead to the final implementation of Ethereum 2.0. These updates have been developed and integrated extensively in the Ethereum Blockchain following the steps established in a roadmap. Currently, Ethereum is in the process of activating a second bifurcation called Constantinople, which had been delayed due to security errors in its implementation and would be the next step to complete the implementation of Ethereum 2.0 with the activation of the Serenity phase which It has a road map that guides the work until the year 2022.

What comes next?

In the other stages that follow, the first will be the Istambul update, which is expected to be ready for the month of October this year. Istambul could be the last fork before it goes to version 2.0. The Istanbul proposals highlight the inclusion of Programmatic Proof of Work (ProgPoW or Programmatic Work Test).

This algorithm was designed to block the ASIC mining hardware and to compete against the centralization of the mining power that the ASICs could generate in the network. This year 2019, there is no precise date, the definitive phase 0 of Serenity is foreseen, which consists in the implementation of the Beacon chain. What would be the first step to the definitive change of the PoW protocol or Work Test to PoS, which is the Participation Test. However, in this phase of the Beacon PoS protocol it will operate in lateral mode, making life with the original Ethereum chain and therefore with the PoW.
